ROWAN was born inside Recovery Columbus Inc. — a working repossession agency operating in Georgia, Alabama, Colorado, and Wyoming. We didn't set out to build a software company. We set out to fix the parts of our own day that were broken.
Like most small agencies, we were paying for four or five different tools that didn't talk to each other. We had RDN for case management, a separate route app for the field, a third tool for analytics, and a manual billing process that bled money every month. The accounting lived in QuickBooks. The phones lived somewhere else. The skip tracing was a credit-card-funded free-for-all with no way to know what was actually working.
Most days felt like we were running the tools instead of running the business. That's the line we crossed: working in the business instead of on it.
